This location, where several innovative (healthcare) organizations will settle in the coming years, fits well with the specialized nature of the hospital.
In the coming years, the Rotterdam Eye Hospital will focus even more strongly on innovative third- and fourth-line care and research. In addition, the hospital will continue to offer accessible and high-quality basic care across the full breadth of ophthalmology. This broad range is also important for the training of future ophthalmologists and offers the opportunity for scientific research to continually improve the quality of care.
This ambition causes Het Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam to choose a new location for the hospital on the Erasmus MC site while maintaining autonomy and the own identity of this unique categorical hospital. Yvonne Koppelman, chairman of the board of directors of Het Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam, is looking forward to exploring the collaboration. "Both Het Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam and Erasmus MC are important players within Rotterdam healthcare. A new location of Het Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam on the Erasmus MC premises will enable us to strengthen mutual cooperation with Erasmus MC and with other organizations located there, thus further developing ophthalmic care in the Netherlands in the interest of the patient."
Erasmus MC is excited about the arrival of Het Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam on its premises: "We are delighted that a specialist hospital like Het Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam, with a good national and international reputation, chooses a new location at Erasmus MC," said Joke Boonstra, member of the Erasmus MC board of directors. The collaboration with Het Oogziekenhuis also fits perfectly with our strategy to be a technical UMC; ophthalmology is a fine example of a profession where technology and medicine meet. We look forward to the joint exploration and elaboration."
