OLVG East's six new ORs were built using the box-in-box principle. In this, Cleanroom Combination Group (CCG) was responsible for the high-end "inner box. Among other things, CCG used its in-house developed Krion® wall system, which was also used for the first time two years ago in the construction of the two 'floating' hybrid ORs.
CCG had been asked by the OLVG to collaborate with EGM Architects and RHDHV in the design phase. "The earlier at the table the better," says Marco de Bruijn, sales manager of the cleanroom specialist. "Especially in complex projects like an OR center, this prevents a lot of problems further on in the building process. We can come up with ideas to do things in a better or different way. You then don't have to adjust the design or change the positions of the air ducts, for example. This increases quality and speeds up the process. Through good preparation and cooperation, this made the whole process go very well. I can say that the success is largely due to the early involvement and close and very pleasant cooperation in the construction team."
The six new, generic ORs were built successively. "In a train with contractor Van Wijnen, ULC and Kropman, OK 107, 106, 105, 104, 103, 102 and the baby care room were built successively," says project leader Stijn de Vries. "The use of Krion® and the wall system we developed played a major role in this. The non-porous, antibacterial and low-maintenance material based on natural minerals and resin was used for all walls and cabinets and gives a seamless result. Front panels are easy to replace if, for example, a larger display is needed. You thus take into account future developments, which you can expect a lot in ORs. We also applied this to the hybrid ORs and the OLVG was very satisfied with this."
CCG will also provide service and maintenance for the ORs in the coming years. De Bruijn: "Two months after commissioning, we hold an initial evaluation to see if the OR staff have any points of attention based on their initial experiences. We learn from their experiences and take that back with us for the next assignment. We are constantly trying to improve our process and our products and use that development in our projects. Our clients are demanding, therefore we are demanding of ourselves."
