On Oct. 10, ETION awarded "De Kempenaar 2024. Jo Leysen, managing director of AZ Turnhout, received the trophy from Pat Van Roey, manager of Van Roey, the company that won the award last year.
Doing business in a values-oriented manner with an eye for long-term success. Focus on sustainable growth with attention to employees and environment. These are the key qualities ETION is looking for in the Kempenaar.
In early September, a jury of entrepreneurs visited the nominated companies. Important criteria for winning the prize: the company is a value-oriented enterprise with an impact on society, local employment and the profiling of the Kempen region. Furthermore, the jury looks at continuity, including financial stability, sustainable ambition and resilience of the company.
"Apparently the judges felt that AZ Turnhout more than met on all criteria," said a proud Jo Leysen. "We are very happy with this award. It is thanks to a team of 2,300 employees, but also thanks to our volunteers and patients, that we won this award. 'Guest-in-home' are not empty words with us; it is our challenge every day to provide our care in this way. Taking into account the preferences and expectations of patients and their loved ones."
"And they literally showed that," said one juror. "We were welcomed hospitably, not only by the management but by a whole team of employees who all, full of passion for their jobs, explained one aspect of social entrepreneurship at AZ Turnhout. It struck us that their core values BIOS (Involved, Empathetic, Entrepreneurial and Collaborative) emerge throughout the company."
From the jury report: AZ Turnhout is fully committed to sustainable care. All investments are made with an eye to the future, including the plans for the new building. With 2,300 employees, AZ Turnhout is one of the largest employers in the Kempen region. At the social level, hospital employees organize numerous actions for four good causes. An example of committed enterprise.
