Gerflor floor and wall coverings are durable, easy to maintain, meet the highest hygiene requirements and have strong bactericidal and virucidal activity, proven in independent labs.
Gerflor Group has numerous references and realized projects in the Ambulatory Center and the Woman, Child and Heredity building of UZ Gasthuisberg, in the Brussels Institut Jules Bordet and CHIREC-Delta Hospital and in the new building of the Liège Montlegia Hospital, among others. Gerflor recently completed two more renovation projects at UZ Gasthuisberg on behalf of UZ Leuven's Operations Department.
In 2021, Michem of Dendermonde renovated the floor and walls of the sanitary facilities at the reception area. This involved covering 400 m² of walls with Decochoc wall protection panels in Ivory, Siena and Clay. On the floor came Premium Compact in the color Central Park. The Dechcochoc pictograms indicating the toilets and the changing table were custom cut by water jet.
The walls and floors are in PVC, mass-colored, and have a lifespan of at least 20 years. The panels score with their high impact and scratch resistance. The hybrid (combination of homogeneous and heterogeneous) floor has a wear layer of more than 1 mm that is colored in the mass and is made of PVC without fillers. This makes it very resistant to wear and highly resistant to micro-scratches. Its heterogeneous backing makes it a dimensionally extra stable floor with high-performance welds.
"Gerflor guarantees high durability and ease of maintenance and is a reliable supplier," praises Geert Van Hole, site coordinator at UZ Leuven. "We help steer choices and construction. In addition, Marc Michem is an experienced installer and very familiar with the needs of the house," says Yolande Van Eynde, Gerflor's Key Account
Manager Healthcare Flanders.
In addition, in 2020, Egalo from Lebbeke covered 950 m² of floor space in the transport corridors on floor 2 with GTI (Grand Traffic Industrial) Cleantech tiles in Yellow and Ora (black). The tiles have straight edges that are thermally welded together. This nighttime work took two months, with Egalo always keeping one section of the transport corridors accessible and avoiding as much dust as possible. "Egalo did an excellent job here as well," said Van Hole and Van Eynde.
"This floor is the strongest of its kind and therefore extremely suitable for this heavy traffic zone. It is also used in manufacturing and industrial areas, among others, and combines wear resistance with the acoustic comfort and look of an ordinary PVC floor. The tiles are 6 mm thick with a homogeneous wear layer of 2 mm colored in mass, on 4 mm backing with two fiberglass grids that make them extra stable. They are hermetically sealed with welded seams, providing hygienic and maintenance benefits," Van Hole and Van Eynde stressed.
Gerflor floors have a unique surface protection 'Evercare©'. This protects best against human coronaviruses according to independent lab tests. "The floors have been given this resistant, scratch- and dirt-resistant, laser and UV double-reticulated PUR treatment so that they can always be cleaned polymer-free (positive eco-balance) and do not need to be renewed with a polymer or wax coating. This also gives them an extra matte appearance and ultra-high stain resistance to difficult-to-remove substances such as iso-Betadine, urine and hand gels. R&D works continuously to improve and innovate technically, aesthetically and ecologically," says Van Eynde.
UZ Leuven also won a Gerflor competition at the Inspire Health&Care healthcare trade show in April. This allowed it to install a Decoprint wall covering with personalized Decochoc panels.
