Mardoors has been a specialist in sliding doors for 10 years and focuses entirely on healthcare. Sliding doors offer a great advantage, we learn from Marc Verhelst, co-owner of Mardoors Sliding Door Systems. Because with these doors, every room always remains accessible; whether you have your hands full or use a walker or wheelchair. To emphasize that, plus the many other advantages, Mardoors highlighted its Mardoors Easycare Automatic at ZORG.tech.
"A sliding door makes logistics a lot easier," Verhelst says. "It saves space, the doors are easy to operate and they fit within the 24-hour business of healthcare." The Mardoors Easycare Automatic is a wall sliding automatic door system with a self-supporting steel frame. The use of a magnetic field makes the door system appear to float within the frame. The technology is incorporated into a drive beam, which is placed within the already installed frame. After connecting the wiring, the door leaf is hung underneath and the automatic floating door can be used.
This innovative technical application eliminates the need for separate "control boxes" in the suspended ceiling. Verhelst: "Optically, this is quieter, and more space is left for the other technical equipment there." So that's one of the most common reactions to this sliding door during ZORG.tech. It looks like a manually operated door, but offers much more ease of use. And it also looks less clinical. "When opened, the door disappears completely into the wall, so you can't drive against it. This prevents damage. In addition, with this type of door there are no rotating parts such as a chain and a motor, so there is much less wear and tear. An absolute plus, in times when sustainability is key."
Should the door for any reason once not open on its own, the solution is simple. "Sliding doors should always be openable by hand," Verhelst explains. "Often this is a hard job; you have to push through the resistance of the motor. Instead, we want to keep all rooms accessible at all times. The Mardoors Easycare Automatic offers no resistance from the motor; after all, there is none! So in case of an emergency, anyone can always slide the doors open easily."
"Besides that, a sliding door is more hygienic. You don't touch the door and there is less air circulation so there is less spread of bacteria. That's why we like to talk to the architects of healthcare projects, so that they can already include our sliding doors in their design. With the space gain that a sliding door provides, you are much freer with your floor space. A 45 m2 room with sliding doors easily provides an additional 8 m2 of free space. Due to the long lifespan of our doors, they are also perfect for use in lifetime homes."
Mardoors is also active in Belgium. There they recently introduced the Mardoors Resicare Sliding Walls; ceiling-high doors specifically intended as a barrier between the sanitary cell and the living area of a residential care room. The aluminum profiles are quick and easy to install against the ceiling and are immediately finished. "The lightweight door panels make this system very comfortable for both the resident and the nursing staff," Verhelst adds.
Mardoors also specializes in radiation resistant doors, soundless doors and hermetically sealing doors, among others. "The end user's wishes are at the heart of our work. If the standard solutions do not suffice, we will think along with you about a solution that does. Our doors are now used satisfactorily in various hospitals and healthcare institutions. Our updated website offers a complete overview of all our applications. We look forward to the future with confidence. A sliding door provides access for everyone, as well as convenience for the resident, nurse and technician. It is the door to the future," concludes Verhelst.
