Cablon Medical puts people at the center of everything it does. The company provides software and hardware for radiotherapy and radiology, and is paying increasing attention to the patient experience and creating a pleasant working environment for hospital employees. One way the company does this is with the ultra-realistic cloud ceilings from OpenCeilings®.
"When treating a patient with cancer, for example, we look at the big picture," says Dagmar Timmermans, Business Unit Manager of Radiology. For example, Cablon specializes in Patient Routing, from registration to actual treatment. "It is very annoying for a patient if he has to share his data over and over again. Moreover, this is error-prone. That's why we developed a palm scan, which is linked to the R&V system and the accelerator."
Cablon considers patient and staff comfort equally important. "It's obviously very unpleasant to have to undergo a medical examination or treatment. You sometimes enter a clinical room dozens of times, without windows, where you only see the equipment. It is also unpleasant for employees to have to work all day in a room without daylight. This does not benefit their mental health. So a solution that provides distraction and suggests daylight is very beneficial for both parties."
Cloud ceilings and virtual OpenWindows can thus contribute positively to the patient and employee experience, according to Cablon. "About six years ago we already supplied such a product from a Canadian company. We noticed then that there was definitely a need for this. However, the prices of this supplier became too high, partly because of the logistics. Fortunately, we then got to know OpenCeilings®. This Dutch company delivers the same high quality, at an attractive price. We are now the exclusive distributor for OpenCeilings® to hospitals, healthcare institutions, private clinics and ZBCs in the Netherlands."
Cablon supplies several of the company's products. The OpenCeiling® is a photographic illusion of a skylight, combining high-resolution photos with LED lighting. The panels (available in 60×60 or 60×120) are exactly the size of a ceiling tile and can easily replace it. In doing so, the product falls slightly into the ceiling, really creating the suggestion of a window. Thanks to the so-called edge-lit technology, the panels are ultra-thin and offer 100% uniform illumination. "This is unlike variants from some other suppliers, where the picture is of poor quality or the lighting is spotty. Also, the glass is completely anti-reflective, which is important for privacy and naturally looks nicer."
Another variation on the same system are the OpenWindows. "With these, you can create the suggestion of a window," Timmermans explains. "The OpenWindow, which also uses 'edge-lit' technology, is hung like a painting and is installed at lightning speed. With both the OpenCeiling® and OpenWindow, it is easy to create your own design and appearance. The image bank of OpenCeilings® is vast, so one can choose a cloudy sky, as well as another type of composition, such as a landscape or aquarium. However, the company can also create new photos for the customer at an additional cost."
All products can be equipped with the DynamicDaylight LED panels whose light color and intensity changes throughout the day. Thus, they support the natural biorhythm of humans. In addition, there are various other wired and wireless options for dimming the lighting.
OpenCeilings® products can now be found in many Dutch hospitals, including the Bravis Hospital, UMCU and UMCG. "We always think along with our customers and are happy to send a demo panel free of charge, or take it with us on a visit. Often the choice is then quickly made, because the quality speaks for itself. Not insignificantly, the panels are also very affordable."
